Cary Grubb was an outstanding baseball player from 1984-87 under the tutelage of former Golden Eagle head coach Barry McCauliff. Grubb, a four-year starter at third base, helped Clarion win the PSAC West title in 1984 with a 10-4 league record while also helping Clarion to a PSAC West runners-up finish in 1985. In 1985 he hit .306 (26 of 85) with two home runs and 14 RBIs.
 
In 1986 he Grubb was voted the PSAC West Player of the Year when he hit .426 (43 of 101) with four home runs, four triples, six doubles and 27 RBIs. He followed that in 1987 hitting .362 (25 of 69) with six home runs, three triples, four doubles and 19 RBIs.
 
A first-team PSAC West choice in 1985, 1986 and 1987 and a team captain in 1986 and 1987, Grubb posted a career batting average of .343 with 13 home runs, nine triples, 12 doubles, 68 RBIs and 61 runs scored. Through the 2013 season, his 13 home runs were the third most at Clarion since 1970 while his 68 RBIs ranked tied for sixth in that span and his .343 average ranked seventh. The .426 average in 1986 was also the eighth-highest in a season at Clarion since 1979.
 
Drafted by the California Angels, he played professional baseball for two seasons with the Angels organization.
 
A 1983 graduate of Bedford High School, Cary and wife Molly have a son Jay and reside in Schellsburg, Pa.
