Damon Pietronigro was an outstanding distance freestyle swimmer for the Golden Eagles from 1986-89 under Hall of Fame Coach Bill Miller. Damon was a 12-time NCAA Division II All-American and the first individual D-II National Champion in Men’s Swimming at Clarion. As a junior in 1988, Piteronigro won the 1650 freestyle at nationals setting the Clarion record at 15:45.35, and also the 1000 record with a split of 9:33.29. Those records still stand today. He also was third in the 500 at nationals in 1988 with a Clarion record of 4:31.27 (still holds the record), seventh in the 200 free and part of the Clarion record setting 800 free relay. Clarion also finished third at nationals. In 1989 Pietronigro was a co-captain of the Golden Eagles that finished fifth at nationals. Damon was a four-time All-American placing fifth in the 500, eighth in the 1650 and two relay All-America finishes. As a freshman in 1986 he was a three-time All-American and took home one All-American honor in 1987. At PSAC’s Pietronigro was a career 10-time PSAC Champion and led all PSAC swimmers in individual points scored at PSAC’s in 1987 and 1988. Clarion won PSAC Team Titles all four seasons. Damon was a 1985 graduate of Norwin High School and has been employed by Jabil Inc. for the last 17 years. He and wife Itzell reside in St. Petersburg, Florida.
