A dynamic two-way football player from 1956-59, Dan Mahony was outstanding for the Golden Eagles on the gridiron at tight end and defensive end/outside linebacker throughout his career. Dan earned his varsity letter as a true freshman in 1956, then became a three-year starter for the Golden Eagles. He was appointed team captain as a junior in 1958 and was elected team captain as a senior in 1959. Dan was named to the First Team All State Teachers College, All NAIA, the All Pennsylvania College Team and was nationally ranked as a receiver his senior year. Although stats are not available for those years, Dan caught 25 passes his senior season and scored several touchdowns. He also accounted for several career interceptions while spearheading a strong defense up front. Playing under head coach Ernie “Turk” Johnson, Mahony helped lead the Golden Eagles to an outstanding 6-1-1 team record in 1959. Dan and wife Kathleen reside in Clinton, New Jersey. They have two sons Daniel and Kevin and a daughter Margie. Dan taught for 42 ½ years, the last 37 ½ at Bridgewater-Raritan High School before retiring. He was a wrestling official for 28 years and President of the New Jersey Wrestling Officials Association for three years. He is a native of Baldwin, N.Y. and a 1956 graduate of Baldwin High School.
