Clarion Athletics

An NCAA Div. I national champion and a three-time Division I All-American wrestler, Don Rohn was a fierce competitor on the mats during his outstanding Clarion University career. A four-year starter (1973-76), Don was Clarion's third NCAA Division I national champion in 1973 as he won the national title at 134 pounds and posted a 20-1 overall record. In 1974 he set the Clarion record for single season wins with 41 (41-2) as he placed third at the Division I nationals at 134 pounds. In 1976 he completed his outstanding career by placing sixth at nationals at 142 pounds and a 31-3-1 slate.
Rohn ended his career with an overall record of 124-9-2, had 38 career pins, was a four-time PSAC champion (73,74,75,76), four-time Wilkes Open Champion, won an EWL title in the league's first season (1976), and was team co-captain his junior and senior years. He helped lead Clarion to three PSAC team titles (1973, 74, 76), a fourth place finish at nationals in 1973, and a four-year dual meet record of 69-11 against the best Division I teams in the country. Don earned his degree in elementary education in 1977, taught at Hazleton High for five years, and has been an outstanding teacher/coach at Northampton High ever since. A great wrestling coach, Rohn led Northampton High to the PIAA Class AAA state championship in 1993 and 94 and was PIAA "Coach of Year" both years.
