Jon Haslett played defensive end at Clarion from 1981-84 under Hall of Fame coaches Al Jacks in 1981, Charlie Ruslavage in 1982 and Gene Sobolewski in 1983 & 84. An Associated Press All-American in 1983 and 1984, Haslett had an amazing 99 tackles (40 solo) and 17 sacks in 1983 leading Clarion to the PSAC West and PSAC team titles. His four sacks vs East Stroudsburg in the PSAC Title game led Clarion to a 27-14 victory. He was a PSAC West First Team and AP Honarable Mention All-America in 1983 with Clarion posting a 9-2 record. The Golden Eagles were ranked third in Division II during that season. In 1984 Clarion was 7-3 overall and tied for first in the PSAC West with a 4-2 record. Haslett had 125 tackles and 11 sacks from his end post, giving him 224 tackles and 28 sacks in his final two seasons of play. A First Team PSAC West and D-18 choice, he was a Third Team AP All-American and signed a free agent contract with the Buffalo Bills in the Spring of 1985. He went to camp with the Bills and made it to the final cut. Haslett was the head football coach at Quaker Valley (1991-98) and an assistant at Mars and at Pine Richland until 2000. Haslett is currently employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Pittsburgh. A 1981 graduate of Northgate High, Jon and wife Kristin have three daughters Kayla, Kelly and Kara and reside in Baden, Pa. Jon is the brother of Jerry Haslett who was inducted into the Clarion Sports Hall in 2006, and of Jim Haslett, former Buffalo Bills star and NFL assistant with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Head Coach with the New Orleans Saints and St. Louis Rams.
