 Coach "D" vaulted men's basketball to unbelievable heights during his eight-year reign as head coach. From his initial season (1974-75) to his final campaign (1981-82), DeGregorio's basketball teams posted an eight-year record of 159-67, a winning percentage of 70.4%. Clarion won or  tied for first in the PSAC-West five times (81,80,79,78,77), won the NAJA District 18 title in 1977 and 1980, and participated in the NAIA National Playoffs both seasons. The 1977 squad finished 27-3 and won 19 straight games 2  one stretch. In 1980 Clarion was 23-9 and won its first two games at the NAIA  nationals before losing. The 1981 team, the first season of competition for the entire PSAC under the NCAA Div. II banner, saw DeGregorio lead Clarion to a 23-6 mark, a berth in the NCAA Div. II playoffs, an NCAA playoff win (80-78) over Monmouth, and a runner-up East Region finish. When he retired in 1982, his players ranked 1-2-3 in career scoring, six of the top 10 in career scoring and three of the top four in career rebounding. An assistant coach at Pitt under Dr. Roy Chipman from 1984 to 86, Joe is president and owner of Taylor Technical Products. The boys' basketball coach at
Upper St. Clair High School the last three years, Joe has taken a losing program and turned it into a big-time winner. He has led USC to two WPIAL Section title (93,94), and this season led his team to the WPIAL title game and the PIAA State Quarterfinals.
