Kim Hanslovan, a two-time NCAA Division II All-America in the Javelin, has the highest NCAA nationals finish by any Clarion Track & Field athlete, an amazing accomplishment under coach D.J. Bevevino. After transferring to Clarion from Penn State, Kim started her first outdoor season at Clarion in the Spring of 2010 making history. On March 24 at the Grove City Open she broke Julie Evanoski’s school record of 145-8 (2003) with a throw of 146-4. A month later she qualified for NCAA D-II Nationals with a Clarion record throw of 156-5 winning the Ed Fry Open at IUP. After placing 5th at the Penn Relays (top 4 were D-I), she won the PSAC Championship at West Chester in bad weather conditions throwing 137. She went to the NCAA Division II Nationals in Charlotte, N.C. and set another Clarion record throwing 160-3, earning a second place finish in the Javelin – the highest placing of any track & field athlete at Clarion. That season she was a three-time PSAC Field Athlete of the Week and named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team. After red-shirting the 2011 outdoor season, she came back strong again in 2012. She started the year winning the Shamrock Invitational at Coastal Carolina with an amazing throw of 153 and automatically qualified for NCAA nationals. She also broke the meet record held by Minnesota’s Ruby Radocaj which was 149-7. Unfortunately, Kim injured her elbow on the record throw and it hampered her the remainder of the season. After sitting out a month, Kim placed 6th at the Penn Relays (141-7) and was 5th at the PSAC’s guarding her elbow until the nationals. The Division II Championships were held in Pueblo, Colorado and Hanslovan worked her way to a fine throw of 157-5 in the finals earning All-America status with a 6th place finish, despite throwing in pain. She was also named PSAC Field Athlete of the Week twice in 2012 as well as named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic team for the second time. Also participating in Indoor Track from 2010 – 2012, she placed 8th at PSAC’s in shot put (36-09) in 2010, placed 4th in the shot in 2011 (37-03.25) in 2011 and 9th in the shot in 2012. A 2012 Clarion graduate in Education, she earned her M.Ed. in Technology Education/Instructional Technology from Clarion in 2014. A 2007 DuBois High grad, she is currently a Chemistry teacher at Commonwealth Charter Academy. Prior to that Kim was a  Biology Teacher at Clearfield High School for ten years. Kim and husband Stephen reside in Luthersburg, Pa.
