Nan Farrar glided through water in her four year career as a women's swimmer at Clarion from 1978-81. In her career as a backstroke/freestyle specialist, Nan held 11 Clarion University pool records, 12 PSAC records, was a 16-time PSAC Champion, a 6-time Division II National Champion and a 28-time All-American, the maximum A-A honors a swimmer can earn. At nationals she won the 100 yard backstroke in both 1978 and 1979, plus was a member of 4 relay national champions. Nan helped the Golden Eagles to 4 PSAC titles and 3 Division II National Championships in 1978, 80 and 81. She earned her degree in Elementary Education in 1981, then went on to work as a Data Entry Operator at Essex Consulting and was a Supply Systems Analyst for the Federal Government, while becoming head swimming coach at Boiling Springs Summer Club, Carlisle YMCA and the Navy Swim Club (Mechanicsburg). A native of Meadville, Pa.  and a 1977 graduate of Meadville High, she currently resides in Mechanicsburg and is married to W. Michael Handley.
