Richard “Dick” Pae was an integral part of Clarion’s football tradition during his 20 years as assistant coach ... He was brought to Clarion in 1968 by coach Al Jacks and continued with football through 1987 ... Dick was in charge of the Secondary during that time, plus was Special Teams Coordinator and a top recruiter ... He was also Assistant Head Coach at Clarion ... The defense recorded 24 shutouts during his tenure and Clarion won PSAC West titles in 1969, 77, 78, 80 and 83 ... PSAC crowns were won in 1977, 80 and 83 ... Clarion had numerous All-Americans and
All-PSAC selections in the secondary ... He was also assistant baseball coach under Joe Knowles from 1968-76 tutoring catchers and outfielders ... Chair of the Hall of Fame Committee from 1989-94, Dick was also a member of the HPE faculty from 1968 through his retirement in 1997 (30-years) ... A 1956 grad of Steelton High, he graduated from Penn State in 1962 ... Dick played football under Rip Engle at Penn State as a defensive back and running back ... He also played baseball for the Nittany Lions ... Dick and wife Mary Lou have two daughters Debbie and Cindy and reside in Shippenville, Pa.
