Bob Carlson, a native of nearby DuBois, Pa., came to Clarion University from Utah State in 1987 as the Associate Athletic Director, became the Acting Athletic Director Oct. 15, 1990, and full time A.D. Jan. 1, 1991. Bob served as Clarion's A.D. through 2005 and made major contributions to advancing athletics throughout his tenure. Teams under Bob won 23 PSAC and 11 PSAC West titles, while countless athletes won local, regional and national awards. Bob increased the athletic scholarship budget from $267,000 to $518,000 during his tenure by taking on a number of highly successful fund raisers. He established the Clarion University Golf Classic Tournament, which annually raised over $40,000 for scholarships, while helping start the Wild Game Dinner, increased summer athletic camp revenues, plus hosted the WWF, Harlem Globetrotters, NWCA All-Star match and other events to raise money for scholarships. Bob also started the Scholar-Athlete Luncheon, which recognizes student-athletes who are at or above 3.2 grade point average and faculty or staff who have contributed to their success. The luncheon today is named after Carlson. Bob oversaw major renovations and Memorial Stadium (artificial turf & lights) and Tippin Gymnasium, was past President of the PSAC A.D.'s, Athletic Directors Association Board of Directors, started Student Advisory Committee (SAAC) on campus and much more. He was also the men's golf coach from 1989-95.
A 1962 grad of DuBois High, 1970 grad of Utah State and former wrestling coach there from 1968-87 with a record of 224-74-1, At the time of his induction Bob resided in Las Vegas with his wife Susan. They have a daughter Dana and son Robert.
