Roland Sparrow, one of the best offensive linemen to play football at Clarion, was a great offensive center under head coach Al Jacks from 1968-70. A talented run and pass blocker, Sparrow spearheaded an extremely explosive offense that averaged 24ppg over his three-year career as the starting center. Clarion was 6-3 in 1968, won the PSAC-West and finished 8-2 in 1969 and sported a 5-3 slate in 1970. A first team PSAC-West, District 18 and ECAC selection, Roland graduated with a degree in Elementary Education in 1971. He signed as a Free Agent with the Dallas Cowboys and went through the entire camp. He was released in the final moves of camp, a year Dallas won the Super Bowl. He returned to Clarion in the Fall of 1971 as a graduate assistant football coach. Roland earned his M.Ed. from Clarion in 1972.
