Shannon Coakley had a big impact on the women’s basketball program at Clarion from 1991-94. She graduated in 1994 as Clarion’s all-time leading scorer (1,812 points), was fifth in career rebounds (764), fourth in assists (286) and second in steals (253). She helped lead the Golden Eagles to an amazing four-year record of 99-22, a 41-7 record in the PSAC West, four straight PSAC West titles, three PSAC Championships (1991, 92, 94), two trips to the NCAA “Elite 8" (91, 94) and two trips to the “Sweet 16" (92, 93) under coach “Gie” Parsons. A 1994 Kodak HM All-American and a first team PSAC West choice, Shannon had her best season in 1994 averaging 17.9 points per game, scored 519 points, added 164 rebounds, 131 assists and 61 steals. She averaged 12.2 points per game had 167 rebounds in 1993, 14.9 points per game and 189 rebounds in 1992 and 16.3 points per game and 244 rebounds as a freshman in 1991. Coakley owned 10 Clarion records including career points, field goals made (629) and attempts (1687), single game field goal attempts (29), single game three pointers made (8 - three times), single game three’s attempted (19), single season field goal attempts (497 - 1991), single season three’s attempted (303 - 1991), single season consecutive games making a three (32 - 1991) and points by a freshman (521 - 1991). In her career she canned 332 three pointers (4th best in the NCAA) of 1,002 attempts, played in 118 games and averaged 15.4 points per game. Shannon resides in Franklin, Pa. with her husband Mike, and is currently working at the Riverview Intermediate Unit 6. She is a native of Beaver Falls, Pa. and a 1990 graduate of Blackhawk High School.
