"Terry" Thompson excited Clarion basketball crowds with his outstanding overall basketball abilities. A prolific scorer, Thompson played at Clarion from 1961-65 and totaled a school record 1,519 career points, a record that held up until 1977. He still holds the Clarion record for most points in a single game (51 vs. Grove City in 1964-65), scoring average in a single season (27.5 ppg-1964-65) and career scoring average (21.1 ppg). A four-year starter, Terry was All-District three years, first team All-District two years, and Honorable Mention All-American once. A member of Sigma Tau Gamma and Varsity Club, he is a 1965 graduate in social studies/ geography at Clarion and has been a highly successful high school coach since graduation. He posted a 77-19 record at East Brady (1965-69). including two District 9 Titles and the Class B State Runner-up in 1968. From 1972-81 he was 137-73 at Knoch High, including section titles in 1976 and 1981 and a PIAA state quarterfinalist in 1981. Head coach at Butler from 1981-83, his 82-83 team was 19-5 and qualified for the PIAA Class AAAA playoffs. Moving on to Fairview (83-90), Thompson registered a 124-56 record, one ECL Title and one District 10 Championship. Still employed at Fairview, Thompson has been the assistant men's basketball coach at Penn State Behrend in the 1990-91 season. A native of Kittanning, PA, and inducted into the Armstrong County Hall of Fame in 1984
