(Erie, Pa.): The Clarion Women's Golf team finished 7th at the 36-hole, two-day Gannon Invitational held Sunday and Monday at Lake Shore Country Club in Erie.
The final event of the year for the Clarion women's golfers, California won the team title with a score of 640 with host Gannon second at 658 and Walsh third with a 672. Clarion was seventh scoring a 381 on Sunday and 360 today. Nine teams participated.
In medal play Clarion's
Alyssa Gerhart (So. Meadville) tied for 20
th with a 90, 82 – 172 while teammates
Samantha Veights (Jr. Mt. Lebanon) and
Jennifer Suffern (Jr. Carnegie) finished 28
th and 30
th respectively. Veights carded a 95, 88 – 183, with Suffern getting a 92, 92 – 184.
Kayla Lavery (Fr. Waterford – Ft. LeBoeuf) posted a 104, 98 – 202 and
Lisa Kerle (Jr. Clarion) notched a 303.
“I was really pleased with our team score of 360 today,” said head coach
Marie Gritzer. “It was one of our top scores of the year and a great way to finish our season.”
CLARION NOTES: Clarion's score of 360 was the second best of the 2010-11 season… The top score came on September 18-19 at the Mercyhurst Invitational – Clarion posted a 349… After that the next best was 368 at Baldwin-Wallace… Cal's Lorena Aranda shot a 78, 78 – 156 to win the medal play.
