Slow Start Costs Clarion in Loss to Mansfield

Dec. 1, 2007

Box Score

CLARION - Mansfield took advantage of some sloppy early play by Clarion to race out to 14-point lead, 27-13, midway through the first half and then held off a couple of Clarion runs to get an 85-73 win over the Golden Eagles Saturday afternoon at Clarion's Tippin Gym.

Clarion (1-4), which had 12 turnovers in the first 10 minutes, got the lead down to seven points, 36-29, at halftime and then cut it to as little as four - the last time being 56-52 with 7:26 left. But Mansfield (5-0) used a 9-3 run to get the lead back into double digits and never allowed the Golden Eagles to get closer than six the rest of the way.

Chris Greene came off the bench to lead Mansfield with 18 points and six assists, while Kevin Hill had 15 points and Brandon Lawley nine points and eight rebounds.

Demetrius Graham (Detroit) led Clarion with 15 points, while Damon Gross (Pittsburgh) and Josh Yanke (North Canton, Ohio) each had 14 points. Lamar Richburg (Queens Village, NY) added 10 tallies.

Both teams are back in action Sunday with Clarion hosting Bloomsburg at 3 p.m. and Mansfield traveling to IUP at 3 p.m.
