SHIPPENSBURG - The Clarion University women's volleyball team had a perfect weekend at the Shippensburg Tournament going 4-0.
The Golden Eagles (6-0) beat Anderson (SC) 3-1 (30-17, 24-30, 30-20, 30-21) and Goldey-Beacom 3-0 (30-22, 30-25, 30-13) Friday and then toppled Limestone (NC) 3-0 (30-17, 30-17, 30-17) and University of the Sciences from Philadelphia 3-0 (30-15, 30-15, 30-24) Saturday.
For the weekend, Christina Steiner led Clarion with 63 kills, including 25 vs. the University of the Sciences, while adding 45 digs and nine blocks. Her hitting percentage for the weekend was .360.
Sarah Fries added 54 kills, 26 digs and five blocks, while Amanda Angermeier had 31 kills. Kristi Fiorillo set the offense up with 162 set assists while adding 18 digs, and Vicky Gentile paced the defense with 73 digs. The 73 digs give Gentile, a senior, 1,978 in her career leaving her 22 digs shy of tying Melanie Bull's school record 2,000.
The Golden Eagles return to action this weekend at the Carolina Challenge at Lees-McRae.
