CLARION - Behind 20 kills from Amanda Angermeier and 15 kills and 20 digs from Sarah Fries, Clarion opened PSAC-West play with a 3-1 (30-26, 24-30, 30-24, 30-21) win at Slippery Rock Tuesday night.
The victory extends Clarion school-record for wins at a start of the season to 11. The Golden Eagles (11-0 overall, 1-0 PSAC-West) put that streak on the line at 7 p.m. Saturday when they travel to defending PSAC champion Lock Haven.
Christina Steiner, who has won the last two PSAC-West Player of the Week awards, added 10 kills and 18 digs for Clarion, while freshman Nicole Andrusz had 12 kills and two blocks. Kristi Fiorillo set the offense up with 62 assists while adding 14 digs, and Vicky Gentile, who over the weekend become the all-time career digs leader at Clarion added to her record with 38 digs.
