(CLARION, PA.): Marc Domonkos 35-yard field goal in overtime gave visiting Lock Haven a 17-14 win over Clarion on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
The win raised Lock Haven's record to 1-11 overall and 1-5 in the PSAC-West. Clarion finished the 2007 season with an 0-11 overall record and an 0-6 mark in the PSAC-West.
In the overtime, Clarion had the pigskin first. On the first play of overtime, Clarion qb Tyler Huether was called for intentional grounding, which put the ball back at the 38. A second down pass from QB Tyler Huether to Alfonso Hoggard got the ball to the 30. An incomplete pass on third down put the Eagles at 4th and 15 at the 30. Freshman Nick Sipes came on and tried a 47-yard field goal, but the boot, which was on target, came up about a yard short.
Lock Haven ran the ball on three straight plays to the 18, then brought on Domonkos for his game-wining field goal.
Down 14-7 in the fourth quarter, Clarion drove 89-yards in 10-plays to tie the game 14-14 with 3:58 left on the clock. In that drive Huether completed a big third and 4 pass for 23-yards to Pierre Odom to the Clarion 40. Huether hit Odom on the next play for 19-yards to the LH 41. Two completions to Hoggard putthe ball on the 22, then Huether hit Emmanuel out of the backfield for 15 yards to the 7. On third and goal from the 1, Emmanuel bulled over for the tying score.
Clarion opened the scoring on a 39-yard drive early in the second quarter. Huether's run for 13 yards put Clarion first and goal at the LH 1, and Heuther scored on a qb sneak on the next play to put the Golden Eagles in front 7-0 at 14:02 of the second.
Clarion missed other scoring opportunities in the first quarter. The Eagles nearly scored a td on their opening drive, but when Dustin Dean hit paydirt from three yards out, the Eagles were called for offensive holding. Sipes tried a 30-yard field goal, but the kick was not good and the score stayed at 0-0 at that time.
Late in the first quarter, with the Eagles leading 7-0, Clarion was marching to increase its lead. Huether had just hit Odom for a 35-yard pass play to the Lock Haven 28 and a first down. Hoiggard ran for 5 yards on first down to the LH 23, but on second down, Huether's pass over the middle was intercepted by Wes Plummer at the LH 17 and returned to the 43. Lock Haven used the momentum to turn the game around.
LH took the turnover and drove 57-yards to tie the game later in the second. QB Tyler Golden's 19-yard pass to Jason Eby put the Bald Eagles on the Clarion 1, and after an LH false start, Ibrahim Smith ran off right tackle for a 6-yard td. Domonkos' PAT made it 7-7 at 5 :18 of the second.
Smith then put Lock Haven ahead 14-7 at 14:49 of the fourth quarter when he posted a 64-yard run on the first play of the drive.
