CLARION POSTS 1-3 RECORD AT NORTHEAST DUALS

November 24, 2007

(Troy, N.Y.): Clarion University's NCAA Division I Wrestling team posted a 1-3 record at the Northeast Duals on Saturday (Nov. 24) afternoon at Hudson Valley Community College.

The Golden Eagles opened with a 56-0 win over American International, then dropped a 38-6 match to #3 ranked Oklahoma State, a 30-10 decision to Virginia and went to the wire before losing to Lehigh 21-15.

"I think Clarion fans can be proud of how the team wrestled today," said second year head coach Teague Moore. "We really scrapped hard today, had some nice wins and went down to the wire with Lehigh before losing 21-15. We are gaining valuable experience against quality teams and that's what we were looking for early in the season. We believe this will pay off for us down the road."

Clarion posted 7 pins in its opening 56-0 win against American International. Gaining falls were Jay Ivanco (Fr. Monreoville/Gateway) at 125, Tony Lascari (So. Gray) at 133, Sal Lascari (Jr. Gray) at 141, Travis Uncapher (Fr. Grapeville/Hempfield) at 157, Dave Cox (So. Orlando) at 165, Scott Joseph (So. Export/Kiski Area) at 184, and Roman Hussam (Fr. Lewisburg) at heavyweight.

The 56 points were the second most points scored in a dual meet in Clarion's rich wrestling heritage. The most were 57-points against Edinboro in a 57-0 win back in 1984.

Against #3 ranked Oklahoma State, Hadley Harrison (So. McKean/General McLane) posted a 6-5 decision over Quinten Fuentes at 149 and Dave Cox decisioned Kevin Wainwright 15-10 at 165.

Versus the University of Virginia the Golden Eagles posted three wins including Jay Ivanco's 6-2 decision over Anthony Burke at 125, Hadley Harrison decisioned Shawn Harris 4-3 at 149 and Travis Uncapher was impressive with a 14-3 major decision over Drew DiPasquale at 157.

Clarion led 12-0 and 15-3 in the early stages against Lehigh, but Lehigh rallied to win 21-15. The Golden Eagles started with a bang when Ivanco used a power half to pin Mitchell Berger at 125 for a 6-0 lead. Rob LaBrake (So. N. Bennington, Vt.) followed with a 3-0 win at 133, when he scored a three-point near fall at the end of regulation to defeat Kevin Vinh. Sal Lascari rallied and used overtime to defeat Jeff Santo 14-12. Down 6-2 at the end of the first period, Lascari came back in the third with two takedowns and two escapes to tie 12-12. He scored the winning takedown just 10 seconds into overtime.

After Harrison lost at 149, Travis Uncapher decisioned Dave Nakasone 15-10 to put Clarion in the lead 15-3. Uncapher was ahead 9-3 after the first period in his match.

The pivotal matches down the stretch were Lehigh's Dave Craig pinning Scott Joseph at 3:50 at 184 to tie the match 15-15, and after Dixon Jordon lost a decision at 197, it all came down to heavyweight. A late escape and riding time tilted the final match to Justin Allen (Lehigh) with a 5-4 decision over Roman Hussam. Hussam was near a takedown at the end of the match, but was not able to secure possession.
