Golden Eagles Knock Off Lock Haven 3-1

CLARION - Sarah Fries had 20 kills, 21 digs and five service aces to lead the Clarion University women's volleyball team to a 3-1 win over visiting Lock Haven in PSAC-West action Tuesday night at Tippin Gym.

The Golden Eagles (19-3 overall, 5-2 PSAC-West), the fourth ranked team in the Atlantic Region, had little trouble against No. 3 Lock Haven (8-14, 3-4) winning 30-20, 23-30, 30-16, 30-22.

Christina Steiner added 18 kills, 11 digs and three service aces and now sits one dig away from becoming the third player in school history with 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs.

Kristi Fiorillo added 54 set assists, 13 digs, four kills and four aces, while Nicole Andrusz had nine kills and two blocks and Vicky Gentile 27 digs.

Clarion returns to action this weekend when it hosts a PSAC Crossover weekend. Six schools - Clarion, Edinboro, Lock Haven, Millersville, Kutztown and Cheyney - will compete over two days (Friday and Saturday). Clarion faces Cheyney at 7:15 p.m. Friday before taking on Kutztown and Millersville Saturday. Saturday's action gets started at 10 a.m. with Clarion's first match at 1 p.m. Friday's action starts at 5 p.m. and Saturday's last matches start at 4 p.m.
