(Clarion, Pa.): Clarion's NCAA Division I wrestling team upped its dual meet record to 5-7 on Wednesday afternoon defeating Buffalo 18-12 and Delaware State 52-3 at Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium.
Clarion's Hadley Harrison (So. McKean - 149) and Jamie Luckett (Jr. St. Charles, Mo. - 197) won overtime matches against Buffalo leading the Golden Eagles to a big 18-12 win over the Bulls, while the Golden Eagles received pins from Jay Ivanco (Fr. Monroeville) at 125, Harrsion at 149, Dave Cox (So. Orlando, Florida) at 165, and Dixon Jordan (So. Cheverly, Md.) at 197 in the Golden Eagles 52-3 win over Delaware State.
Clarion broke out to a 12-0 lead against Buffalo. Jay Ivanco decisioned Dan Bishop 7-2 at 125, Rob LaBrake decisioned Joe Wilson 5-0 at 133, and Sal Lascari dropped Andrew Stella 7-3 at 141 to give the Eagles a 9-0 advantage.
Harrison and Patrick Lloyd went to overtime tied at 2-2. Harrison posted his match-winning takedown with only 4 seconds left in overtime to win 4-2 and stake the Eagles to a 12-0 lead.
Buffalo's John cummings edged Travis Uncapher (Fr. Grapeville) 4-3, and Scott Rendos used a 6-point third period to come back and defeat Clarion's Dave Cox 7-4 to bring the Bulls to within 12-6.
Clarion's Mario Morelli (So. DuBois) defeated Mike Ragusa 6-2 at 174 with a big third period of his own. Tied 2-2 to start the third, Morelli used a power half to tilt Ragusa for three points, then rode Ragusa the remainder of the period for riding time advantage to win 6-2.
After Buffalo's Mickey Moran decisioned Scott Joseph (So. Export) 6-1 at 184 to get back within 15-9, the match went to 197 where Clarion's Luckett sealed the win for the Golden Eagles.
Luckett and the Bull's Jimmy Hamel were tied 3-3 entering overtime. Luckett nearly had a takedown with 8 seconds remaining in overtime, but the duo went out of bounds. Off the re-start, Luckett shot a quick double and had the winning takedown with 2 seconds left in ot.
Buffalo's Jeff Parker decisioned Roman Husam (Fr. Lewisburg) 11-5 at heavyweight to end the match with Clarion winning 18-12.
"It was a big win for the team and the program," Clarion second year head coach Teague Moore said after the match. "I was proud of the way we fought in each and every match and won the close ones we absolutely had to have."
Clarion wrestled 6 matches against Delaware State, winning five. Along with the falls posted by Ivanco, Harrison, Cox and Jordan, Travis Uncapher won an 11-2 major over Kyle Robinson at 157. Roman Husam lost a 4-2 decision to Zeb Davis at heavyweight.
CLARION NOTES: The win against Buffalo puts Clarion ahead 8-6 in the overall series ... Buffalo had tied Bloomsburg 17-17 on December 15th and defeated Lehigh at the Michigan Duals by a 22-9 score on Dec. 30th... Clarion hosts Davidson at Tippin Gym Weds. January 9th at 5pm.
