(Clarion, Pa.): Clarion defeated Duquesne 30-13 and Wagner 49-6, as the Golden Eagles swept a double dual meet on Friday night at Clarion's Wald. S. Tippin Gymnasium.
The wins raised Clarion's overall record to 8-9 on the season under second year head coach Teague Moore.
Clarion won 9 of 9 bouts wrestled in the opener on their way to a 49-6 win over Wagner. Pins were registered by Jay Ivanco (Fr. Monreoville) at 125, Rob LaBrake at 133, Mario Morelli (SO. DuBois) at 174, Dixon Jordan at 197 and Roman Husam (Fr. Lewisburg) at heavyweight. Technical falls were also notched by Tony Lascari (SO. Gray) at 141 and Hadley Harrison (SO. McKean) at 149.
In the nightcap Hadley Harrison's pin at 149 and Scott Joseph's (So. Export) fall at 174 led the way for Clarion's 30-13 win over Duquesne.
Duquesne led 3-0 on Jon Bittinger's 7-2 decision over Jay Ivanco, when LaBrake countered with a 6-0 win over Kevin Chapman at 133 to tie the score 3-3.
Duquesne again took the lead when Jayk Cobbs majored Tony Lascari at 141, but Harrison followed with his pin over Brad Shrum at 6:35 to turn the match around. In Harrison's match, with the score tied 2-2 late in the third, Harrison worked a takedown, put in a half-nelson, turned Shrum to his back and pinned him at 6:35, in consecutive moves.
Clarion's Travis Uncapher (Fr. Grapeville) won 6-3 over Cody Midlam at 157. With the score tie 3-3 in the third, Uncapher notched a takedown and Rode Midlam the final minute for his win.
Although Clarion led 12-7 after Uncapher's win, the Golden Eagles forfeited 165 without and entry, and Duquesne was back on top 13-12.
That left the match square on the shoulders of Clarion's upper weights and they responded. Mario Morelli won a 7-1 decision over Scott Black at 174, then Scott Joseph brought down the house with a pin at :38 seconds over Ryan Sula at 184. Joseph used underhooks for position to back trip and throw Sula to his back to get his fall.
At 197 Jamie Luckett earned a forfeit and Roman Husam followed with a 5-2 decision over Joe D'Orsie to win the final bout.
