Clarion Claims Second Place in PSAC-West With Win over Edinboro

CLARION - The Clarion University women's volleyball team claimed second place in the PSAC-West with a 3-0 win over Edinboro Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Clarion's Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium.

The Golden Eagles (25-4 overall, 7-3 PSAC-West) swept by the Fighting Scots (25-9, 6-4) 30-22, 30-22, 30-18. Clarion entered the match ranked third in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region while Edinboro was second.

Christina Steiner paced Clarion's offense with 10 kills while adding seven digs, and Sarah Fries had eight kills, six blocks and nine digs. Kristi Fiorillo set the offense up with 34 set assists and added six digs, Tress Dvorsky had five kills and three blocks and Amanda Angermeier chipped in with seven kills and two blocks.

Vicky Gentile led the Golden Eagle defense with 17 digs.

With the win, Clarion has won 25 games for the seventh time in school history and for the fourth time since 2002. The 7-3 PSAC-West mark is Clarion's best since going 7-3 in 2002.

Clarion, the second seed from the PSAC-West will take on either West Chester or Millersville in the opening round of the PSAC Playoffs Friday at Shippensburg. It is the Golden Eagles first PSAC Playoff appearance since 2004.
