Final Stats
(CLARION, PA.): Slippery Rock running backs Ryan Lehmeier, Corey Manful and Sayquan Scott-Mitchell rushed for over 100 yards and 2 td's each, leading "The Rock" to a 49-14 win over Clarion on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.
A PSAC-Western Division game, Slippery Rock moves its record to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the PSAC-West. Clarion dropped to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the West.
Manful and Lehmeier both rushed for 129 yards and 2 td's as they alternated playing time in the first three quarters. In a reserve role, Scott-Mitchell came in and ran for 179 yards and 2 td's.
Slippery Rock's Corey Manful put the first points on the board with a 1 yard td run at 4:30 of the first quarter, giving SR a 7-0 lead. That drive went 99-yards in 14 plays and took 7:08 off the clock.
Early in the second quarter Clarion drove from its own 4 yard line to the Slippery Rock 19. Clarion qb Tyler Huether hit some big passes in the drive including a 24-yarder to Jaques Robinson, a 14-yarder to Matt Foradora, one for 12 again to Robinson and an 18-yarder to Alfonso Hoggard, which had Clarion at the SR 21. On third and 8 at the 19, Huether's pass was intercepted by Zach Sheridan at the Rock 5, ending a threat that could have tied the game.
Later in the second quarter, SR running back Ryan Lehmeier put the Rock ahead 14-0 with 1:55 left before intermission on a 13-yard td run.
SR put the game away early in the third quarter scoring twice in 2:10. Manful scored on a 13-yard td run on the opening drive of the second half giving SR a 21-0 lead at 13:47.
Clarion fumbled the kickoff and SR recovered at the Clarion 27. Six plays later SR qb Brandon Frohnapple tossed a 3-yard td pass to Terry Grossetti at 11:37 of the third at SR led 28-0
Clarion scored on a 14-yard td pass from Tyler Huether to Jaques Robinson at 9:48 of the fourth quarter to make it 35-7. The score came only two plays after Barrington Morrison recovered a Scott-Mitchell fumble at the SR 31. Huther hit Nate Pagan for 17 yards to the 14, before throwing a fade route in the right corner of the endzone for the Clarion td.
The Golden Eagles scored again on the Huether to Robinson connection, this time a 3-yarder, and Clarion pulled to 42-14 with 2:19 left in the game.
Clarion had 329 yards of offense including 100 yards rushing and 229 yards passing.
Clarion qb Tyler Huether hit on 26 of 45 passes for 224 yards and 2 td's with 3 interceptions. He also rushed for 93 yards.
Jaques Robinson caught 8 passes for 78 yards and 2 td's, while Alfonso Hoggard grabbed 6 balls for 51 yards.
Slippery Rock had 503 yards of offense including 451 rushing and 52 passing.
Frohnapple connected on 7 of 11 passes for 52 yards and 1 td.
Clarion travels to Lock Haven for a 7pm start next Saturday. Slippery Rock returns home to host Edinboro.
