Final Stats
(INDIANA, PA.): IUP jumped out to a 21-0 lead and never looked back as the Crimson Hawks defeated the Golden Eagles 66-16 on Saturday at IUP's George P. Miller Stadium.
Indiana raised its record to 6-2 overall and 4-2 in the PSAC-West, while Clarion dropped to 2-7 overall and 1-5 in the PSAC-West.
The Crimson Hawks were led by sophomore running back Tobias Robinson who dashed for 229 yards and 3 td's on only 15 carries. Backup Justin Warren also rushed for 79 yards and 3 td's on the afternoon.
Robinson opened the scoring with touchdown runs of 16 and 1 yard in the first quarter, then Garrett Lestochi went over from 7-yards out and IUP led 21-0 after the first quarter,
Clarion drove 57-yards in 7 plays from its own 20 to the IUP 23. The big play was a 35-yard pass from QB Tyler Huether to Alfonso Hoggard for 35 yards and a personal foul on the play took the ball to the IUP 25. On fourth and 8 at the 23, Robert Mamula came on and booted a 40-yard field goal to cut the lead to 21-3 at 14:46 of the second quarter.
IUP drove 66-yards and scored when Warren scored on a 5-yard run making it 28-3.
The Hawks went 63 yards before halftime and scored on a Mychal Skinner 23-yard td pass from Andrew Krewatch at 5:30 to make in 35-3.
Clarion's Alex Evans picked off a Krewatch pass with 4:25 left in the first half and returned it 5 yards to the Clarion 25.
Two plays later, from the IUP 31, Huether dropped back and fired a long pass down the right sideline that Jaques Robinson grabbed away from the defender and raced into the endzone for a 69-yard touchdown play. The PAT was blocked but the score stood at 35-9.
IUP added a 43-yard field goal to lead 38-9 at halftime.
Any thoughts of a comeback were dashed on the frist play of the third quarter when Robinson went 79-yards to paydirt to give the Hawks a 45-9 lead.
With IUP up 52-9, Gino Rometo came in at qb and led the Golden Eagles on a 48-yard td march. The td pass came on a 19-yard pitch to the left endzone corner where tight end Matt Foradora made a very nice catch in traffic for the score. With 1:03 left in the third the score was 52-16.
After IUP scored to make it 59-16, the Golden Eagles again put together a nice drive after Alfonso Hoggard returned the kickoff to the Clarion 47, and an IUP personal foul had the pigskin at the IUP 38. Rometo hit Robinson for four yards, rushed for 3, then hit Foradora over the middle for 5 and a first down at the 26. He hit Foradora again deep over the middle for 24 yards to the IUP 2 and a first and goal. A pass in the endzone appeared to go off a Golden Eagle and Garrett Majors intercepted ending the threat.
IUP tacked on one more score to make the final 66-16.
Clarion gained 238 yards including 26 rushing and 212 passing. Huether hit on 9 of 21 passes for 148 yards and 1 td. Rometo completed 6 of 10 for 64 yards and 1 score.
