CLARION - The Clarion University women's volleyball team gave first-place California a battle before falling 3-1 in PSAC-West action Tuesday night at Clarion's Tippin Gym.
It was all Vulcans (24-1, 7-0 PSAC-West) in the early going, as Cal took the first two sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-12. But Clarion (11-11, 2-4) fought back in set No. 3 winning 25-18. The Golden Eagles then took a 22-21 lead in the fourth set before succumbing to Cal 25-23.
Kellie Bartman led the way with 17 kills, 8 digs and one block, while Danielle Brunot had six kills. Amanda Gough added five kills, one block and 27 set assits, and Rhianon Brady had 15 digs.
Clarion returns to action Oct. 17 when it hosts Edinboro.
