TRAIL, EAGLES BEAT WHEELING IN OT

WHEELING, WV - Aaron Trail's layup with seven seconds left in overtime lifted the Clarion University men's basketball team to a 94-92 win at Wheeling Jesuit Thursday night.

Wheeling Jesuit (0-1) had erased a seven point deficit in the extra period to tie the game at 92, but Clarion called time-out with 10 seconds left and ended up getting the ball to the 5-foot-9 Trail was able to get the ball around Wheeling's 6-foot-9 center Greg Andrews.

Clarion (2-1) led for most of the second half before seeing Wheeling take a 83-81 lead in the final minute of regulation.

Marcus Robinson, who scored a team-high 26 points on 10 of 12 from the floor, came up with his biggest basket of the game hitting a 12-foot fade away that hit the front of the rim and then went off the backboard before going in to tie the contest at 83 and force overtime.

Josh Yanke added 23 points and 10 rebounds for Clarion, while Trail, who came into the game without a point in Clarion's first two games, had 13 points. Mike Sherry (9 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists) and Shameel Carty (5 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists) also had solid games for the Golden Eagles.

Cedric Harris led all players with 29 points and 11 rebounds for Wheeling Jesuit, while Maqsodd Harrington added 24 points on 9 of 21 shooting including 6 of 15 from three-point range.

NOTES - It was the second game in a row for the Golden Eagles that came down to the final seconds. Clarion beat Redlands 66-65 Sunday on two free throws by Yanke with three seconds left in regulation ... Trail is the cousin of Clarion great Rollie Smith, the seventh leading scorer in Clarion history.
