CLARION 1-2 AT BINGHAMTON DUALS

(Binghamton, N.Y.): Clarion's NCAA Division I Wrestling team went 1-2 on Sunday at the Sprawl & Brawl Duals in Binghamton, New York and 197-pounder Jamie Luckett went 3-0 to lead the Golden Eagles.

Clarion defeated Columbia 30-12, lost a close 21-15 decision to Rutgers and was handed a 31-6 defeat by #12 ranked Boise State.

"We would like to have turned that Rutgers match around, but on the whole I thought we wrestled pretty well today," said Clarion third year head coach Teague Moore. "We were much crisper than we were against Eastern Michigan Friday night. I saw some improvement today. "Splitting 5-5 with Rutgers, winning 8 bouts against Columbia and a quality effort against #12 Boise State was a solid days work."

In the 30-12 win against Columbia, Clarion won eight of ten matches and actually jumped out to a 27-0 lead winning the first seven bouts.

Jay Ivanco started things off with a 4-0 win over Kyle Gilchrest at 125, then Cameron Moran had a 17-0 tech fall over Kevin Tao at 133. Sal Lascari's 5-0 win over Shane Strumwasser at 141 and Greg Lewis' 3-2 decision over Matt Dunn at 149 had Clarion in front 17-0.

Dominic Ross won by forfeit at 165 and Scott Joseph notched a 10-1 major decision over Travis Creagan at 174 and the Golden Eagles had a 27-0 lead.

Clint Podish, who already had a major decision lead at 184 in the second period, injured his elbow and injury defaulted at 4:20 giving Columbia its first points.

Jamie Luckett, who went 3-0 on the day, won a 6-4 dcision over Ryan Sutherland at 197 and Quintas McCorkle was pinned at heavyweight making the final 30-12 for the Eagles.

Against Rutgers, a team that defeated Clarion 23-9 last year, trhe Golden Eagles actually had its biggest lead of 12-6 after 157, and the match was tied 15-15 after 197, before Rutgers Dominick Russo pinned Quintas McCorkle to win the match 21-15.

Jay Ivanco put Clarion in the lead 3-0 when he decisioned Matt Fusco 7-3 at 125.

Moran won a 3-2 decision at 133 over Brian Bollette and Clarion led 6-0.

The lead evaporated when Sal Lascari was pinned at 1:53 by David Greenwald. Lascari was ahead in the match by 2 points when he got caught and pinned, tying the match 6-6.

The Eagles bounced back for two straight wins when Greg Lewis decisioned David Seidenberg 6-0 at 149 and Hadley Harrison had a 4-3 win over Scott Winston at 157.

Rutgers took a 15-12 lead winning the next three bouts. Matt Pletcher decisioned Dominic Ross 6-2 at 165, Mike Whalen defeated Clarion's Scott Joseph 8-3 and Clint Podish lost 3-1 in overtime to Keith Dobish.

Jamie Luckett pulled the teams even again at 197 when he defeated Karim Mahmoud 3-2, setting up Russo's pin for Rutgers.

Against #12 ranked Boise State, Clarion had two wins including Sal Lascari's 7-6 victory at 141 over Eli Hutchison and Jamie Luckett won 7-4 over Ryan Allen at 197.

Ivanco lost a close 2-1 decision to Brian Owen at 125, Hadley Harrison went to the wire before losing 5-2 to #5 ranked Adam Hall at 157 and Clint Podish lost 3-0 to #5 rated Kirk Smith at 184.

CLARION NOTES: The Golden Eagles are now 2-2 on the young season ... And will be off until December 6th when Clarion will participate in the PSAC Championships hosted by Mercyhurst. Jamie Luckett is off to a 4-0 start after going 3-0 at Binghamton... Going 2-1 on Sunday were Ivanco, Moran, Lascari, Lewis and Harrison... Ivanco, Lewis and Harrison all have dual records of 3-1.
