Final Stats
(CLARION, PA.): Clarion's Jaques Robinson (So. Pgh. - Oliver) caught 10 passes for 140 yards and 2 td's and Eddie Emmanuel (Sr. Hempstead, N.Y.) rushed for 133 yards and 3 td's as the Golden Eagles defeated Cheyney 41-20 on Saturday afternoon.
Held at Clarion's Memorial Stadium on Senior Day, Clarion finished the season with a 3-8 overall record while Cheyney fell to 0-11.
Clarion jumped out to a 27-0 lead at halftime as Robinson and Emmanuel figured in all the scoring. The Golden Eagles went 71 yards in just 4 plays to score the opening touchdown. QB Tyler Huether (Jr. Irwin-Penn Trafford) hit Nate Pagan (Fr. Manheim Twp.) for 33 yards, Robinson for 13 yards, Emmanuel rushed for 8 and Huether hit Robinson on a 17-yard td pass to give Clarion a 7-0 lead with 9:21 left in the first.
Clarion drove 78 yards in 14 plays on its next possession to take a 14-0 advantage with 14:17 left in the second quarter. Emmanuel rushed 8 times for 24 yards on the drive and scored on a 1-yard run.
Cheyney drove to the Clarion 28 on its next possession, but Ron Hunter fumbled the pigskin and Dan Wirkowski recovered at the Clarion 32. A penalty put the ball back at the 22, but Clarion again went 78-yards to paydirt, this time in 11 plays. Robinson caught 5 passes for 55 yards on the drive, including an 8-yard fade route in the right corner of the endzone from Huether for the Golden Eagle touchdown. Robert Mamula's PAT gave the Golden Eagles a 21-0 lead with 3:41 left before intermission.
A short Cheyney punt gave the Eagles good field position at its own 47 with 2:23 left before halftime. Two big plays put Clarion in position to score. The first was a pass from Huether to Alfonso Hoggard (So. Phila.) for 19 yards, and later a 22-yard strike to Robinson to the Cheyney 6. Emmanuel capped the drive with a 1-yard td run with only 15-seconds left in the first half giving Clarion a 27-0 lead.
Emmanuel scored on a 3-yard run in the third, and Nick Sipes (So. Curwensville) had a 37-yard td run in the fourth to complete Clarion's scoring.
Cheyney's Bobby Hogan scored 2 td's in the second half, and Chinoso Okora scored to account for the Wolves 20 points.
Clarion had 483 yards of offense including 232 rushing and 251 passing.
Tyler Huether hit on 18 of 27 passes for 251 yards and 2 td's.
Eddie Emmanuel rushed 32 times for 133 yards and 3 td's. It was his 11th career 100+ yard day in his career. He finished his Clarion career ranked fourth in career rushing with 2,371 yards and 18 td's.
Robinson, who had 10 catches for 140 yards, finished the season with 70 catches (3rd most in a single season) for 849 yards and 8 td's.
The defense was led by James Eckels with 8 stops and 1 tfl, Shawn Sopic had 7 stops, while Joe Fox had 7 hits and 2 tfl's. Senior tackle Jimmy Simmons, who missed last week's game and played sparingly in the three games before that with an ankle sprain, had 4 tackles and 1 tfl, giving him 17 tfl's for the season.
Cheyney had 248 yards of offense. Ronald Thompson completed 17 of 26 passes for 118 yards. Hogan rushed 7 times for 42 yards and 2 td's. Darryl Jones caught 7 passes for 49 yards.
Clarion's six seniors honored in pre-game ceremonies include Kevin Brady, Eddie Emmanuel, Bob Kail, Nick Perla, Jimmy Simmons and Dane Willliams.
