#27 KENT STATE RALLIES PAST CLARION 22-13

(KENT, OH): Clarion University's wrestling team led 13-12 after seven weights, but #27 ranked Kent State rallied to defeat the upset minded Golden Eagles 22-13 in NCAA Division I wrestling on Sunday.

Held at the MAC Center on the Kent State campus, Clarion rallied from a 12-0 deficit to lead 13-12 when 174-pounder Scott Joseph scored a 21-8 major decision over Jacob Donley.

Joseph used six takedowns and a three point near fall to earn his major decision which temporarily gave the Eagles a 14-12 advantage.

Kent regained the lead 15-14 when #7 ranked Dustin Kilgore defeated Clarion's Clint Podish 5-3 at 184. Podish actually scored the bout's opening takedown, but Kilgore reversed to tie the bout 2-2 at the end of the first. Kilgore received a penalty point in the second after Podish was called for fleeing the mat, but Podish escaped to tie the match 3-3 entering the third. Kilgore regained the lead with a caution penalty point, then received a second to go ahead 5-3. Podish rode Kilgore the entire third period but lost 5-3.

Eric Chine won a major decision and #9 ranked Jermail Porter won a decision at heavyweight to make the final 22-14.

Clarion started its turnaround when Chris Lascari won a 5-3 decision over Jeremy Depoy at 149. Lascari had a first and third period takedown to win the match.

At 157 Hadley Harrison, ranked #18, dominated Ross Tice. Ahead 3-1 in the second, Harrison scored a takedown and used a cradle for two near fall points to lead 7-1. Two, third-period takedowns gave the Eagle junior a 12-3 major decision.

Clarion's Dominic Ross won an exciting 4-3 decision over Obie Simpson at 165. With Ross trailing 3-2 in the final seconds, Ross hit a lateral drop at the buzzer to get the winning takedown.

Joseph then posted Clarion's fourth straight win giving the Eagles a 14-12 lead, before Kent rallied to win.

#19 ranked Jay Ivanco was upset by Nic Bedelyon 8-5 at 125 to open the match. Danny Galvan lost a technical fall at 133 and Sal Lascari lost a major decision at 141 to open the match.

CLARION NOTES: Clarion is 2-3 this season and will wrestle two duals on December 20th... Clarion will wrestle Northwestern at North Allegheny High at noon, then return to Clarion to host Pitt-Johnstown at 7pm at tippin Gym.
