INDIANA - West Liberty State outscored Clarion 45-26 in the second half to get an 81-62 win over the Golden Eagles on the first day of the fourth annual Shoot for the Cure Tournament benefiting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation Saturday afternoon at IUP's Memorial Fieldhouse.
Clarion (2-3) had overcome an early 19-9 first-half deficit to forge a 36-all tie at halftime, and then took a 43-41 lead a little under four minutes into the second half. But West Liberty (3-3) went on a 10-1 run to go up 51-44 with just over 14 minutes to play.
The Golden Eagles closed the gap to five a couple of times, the last at 54-49, before West Liberty used an 11-0 run to put the game away.
Bethany Koch led Clarion with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Katrina Greer had 18 points and Sara Pratt 14.
Tori Hansen paced West Liberty with 23 points on 10 of 12 shooting, while Laura Malernee had 21 points and hit 7 of 15 3-pointers.
Clarion returns to action at 1 p.m. Sunday when it faces Concord in the second day of the tournament at IUP.
