CONCORD RALLIES PAST CLARION

Dec. 7, 2008

Box Score

INDIANA - Concord used a late 6-0 run to erase a two-point deficit and get a 65-63 win over Clarion on the second day of the fourth annual Shoot of the Cure Tournament benefiting the Susan G. Komen foundation Sunday afternoon at IUP.

Clarion (2-4) led 59-57 following two Katrina Greer free throws with 2:38 to play, but Concord (2-5) scored the next six points including four from Sierra Brown to take a 63-59 lead with 47 seconds to play.

The Golden Eagles tried to rally when Shaina Smith hit a three-pointer with 24 seconds left to make it 63-62. Annamarie Truckley then made it a three-point game with a pair of free throws with 16 seconds to play.

Clarion then had one last chance to tie the game when Bethany Koch was fouled with one second left. Koch hit the first free throw and missed the second one on purpose. The rebound came to Smith, who tried a floating hook shot from 10 feet that banked and then rolled off the rim.

The Golden Eagles led 29-20 at halftime and got the lead up to 12, 36-24, a little under five minutes into the second half. But Concord answered with a 16-4 run to tie the game at 40.

But following a Concord timeout after a three-pointer by Meghan Cole that knotted the contest at 40 with 12:01 to play, Clarion went on an 11-5 run to retake a six-point lead at 51-45 on a Greer jumper with 8:42 left.

Concord, though, rallied with a 6-0 run to tie the game at 51 on a Holly Bibb three with 8:01 to play. The game then remained within a possession until Brown's basket gave Concord the 63-59 lead.

Greer led Clarion with 19 points on 7 of 16 shooting, while Koch had another solid game with 15 points and eight rebounds. She added three assists and a steal. Smith had 12 tallies in her second game of the season after missing the first four with an injury, and freshman Courtney Healy, also playing her second game of the year, had seven blocked shots to go with two points and six rebounds.

Cole led Concord with 17 points, Brown had 16 points and nine rebounds and Amber Showalter had 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Clarion returns to action Dec. 15 at West Virginia Wesleyan.
