LH WRESTLERS RALLY PAST CLARION 21-13

(CLARION, PA.): Clarion won four of the first five bouts and led 13-3, but Lock Haven rallied to win the final five matches and defeated the Golden Eagles Saturday night 21-13 in an Eastern Wrestling League matchup.

Held at Waldo S. Tippin Gym, Clarions record moves to 10-14-1 overall and 1-5 in the EWL, while Lock Haven is 9-7 overall and 2-4 in the EWL.

With the match starting at 133, Clarion's Rob LaBrake got the Eagles on the scoreboard with a 6-1 win over Bill Ashnault.

Co-Captain Sal Lascari gave Clarion a 7-0 lead when he posted a 10-1 major decision over Owen Wilkinson at 141. Lascari had two, third period takedowns and 3:57 riding time to gain his major decision.

Lock Haven battled back with a big win at 149 when Matt Fittery defeated Hadley Harrison 6-0.

Clarion's Travis Uncapher brought the Eagles right back with a 9-3 win over John Mangini at 157. Uncapher had three takedowns in the win.

Then at 165 Dominic Ross put Clarion ahead 13-3 when he notched a 12-5 decision over Derek Caldwell. Ross had five takedowns in the first two periods for his win, but Lock Haven was poised for a comeback.

LH's Tom Kocher decisioned Mario Morelli 5-3 at 174, then Jeremie Cook scored a 2-1 decision over Scott Joseph at 184. Cook's 1:20 in riding time was the difference.

At 197 Clarion's Jamie Luckett and LH's Ben Hepburn went into overtime tied 1-1. Luckett had several near miss takedowns, including one in overtime. But Hepburn scored a counter takedown at the buzzer in overtime to get the 3-1 win and put Lock Haven within 13-12.

With Clarion heavyweight Roman Husam out with an illness, Dixon Jordan, normally a 197-pounder, took the mat at heavyweight but was pinned by Dan Carig at 2:08 giving Lock Haven its first lead at 18-13.

At 125 Lock Haven's John Trumbetti won an 8-5 decision over Jay Ivanco, but the match had its moments. Trumbetti nearly scored a pin in the first with a cradle, then got reversed to his back and Ivanco nearly pinned Trumbetti on that move as the first period ended with a 5-5 score. A third period reversal by Trumbetti got him the his decision.

CLARION NOTES: The Golden Eagles have 1 dual meet remaining... Clarion travels to Pitt next Wednesday for a 7:00pm match at Fitzgerald Field House...Uncapher is now 20-9 on the season, along with Harrison who is 20-9... Lascari moves up to 16-9 and Ivanco is 23-12.
