(Mechanicsburg, Pa.): At the 33rd Annual PSAC Women's Swimming Championships on Thursday, the first event is history with Edinboro's Marie Nedley winning the 1000 yard freestyle.
West Chester leads the team scoring after only one event with 48 points, IUP is second with 27, Edinboro third at 21, Bloomsburg fourth with 19 and Clarion fifth with 16 points. Shippensburg is sixth with 11 points, Kutztown seventh with 6, Millersville seventh with 4 and California eighth with 3 points.
Three Clarion swimmers scored points for the Golden Eagles on Thursday night at Cumberland Valley High School. Morgan Berkowitz (Jr. York) was ninth in the 1000 free with a time of 10:51.89, while Stevie Coble (Sr. Akron) was 12th (10:55.70) and Laura Herron (Fr. Parma, Oh.) was 15th (10:57.70).
The four-day event continues on Friday with 5 events decided for the women. West Chester is the defending champion, while Clarion last won in 2006. The Golden Eagles have won 26 of the 32 decided PSAC Championships entering this weekend.
