CLARION - Clarion's Ricky Henderson had 21 points and 18 rebounds, but Edinboro used a game-ending 8-0 run to beat Clarion 79-76 on Senior Night at Clarion Wednesday.
Despite the loss, the Golden Eagles (15-11 overall, 6-5 PSAC-West) secured a PSAC playoff berth, their second in a row and 11th in 12 years, when their two nearest competitors (IUP and Slippery Rock) both lost Wednesday night.
Henderson, whose 18 rebounds are the second most in his career and tied for the seventh most at Clarion since 1980, was 7 of 18 from the floor and 7 of 11 from the free-throw line. He had 11 offensive rebounds while adding four assists, two blocked shots and two steals.
But Edinboro (21-5, 10-1) had all five starters score in double figures led by 19 points from Gil Cummings who added four assists. Devon Knight added 18 points, Gerald Warrick 14 points, Ryan McLemore 10 points, nine rebounds and six blocked shots and Joseph Jones 10 points, five assists.
Lonnell Jones chipped in with 16 points for Clarion, while Lamar Richburg, Demetrius Graham and Josh Yanke each had nine points.
Clarion led by 14, 59-45, with 13:06 to play, but Edinboro answered with a 20-5 run to take a 65-64 lead with 8:14 to play on a 3-pointer by Knight.
The Golden Eagles answered back going up 76-71 on a Henderson slam dunk with 3:32 to play, but that was Clarion's last basket of the game.
Knights' 3-pointer started the game ending 8-0 run for Edinboro, while McLemore's lay-up with 2:36 left tied the game. Warrick then hit a free throw with 1:13 left giving Edinboro the lead for good. McLemore's lay-up with 20.6 to play made it a 3-point game.
Graham had a last-second three attempt for the Golden Eagles that was off.
Clarion returns to action Saturday when it closes out the regular season at Slippery Rock (3 p.m.).
