CLARION SWIMMERS SWEEP EDINBORO & GANNON

Final Stats

(Edinboro, Pa.): Clarion's Men's and Women's Swimming teams were double winners on Saturday, January 19th with wins over Edinboro and Gannon.

Held at McComb Natatorium, Clarion's men defeated Edinboro 134-65 and Gannon 117-85, while the Golden Eagle women downed the Fighting Scots 111-93 and Gannon 136-68. The men raised their season record to 4-2, while the women upped their record to 5-1.

In women's action Kaitlyn Johnson (Fr. Uniontown), Rebecca Burgess (So. Gibsonia) and Lori Leitzinger (Sr. State College) captured individual wins. Johnson won the 100 free (54.75), Burgess the 100 back (1:01.68) and Leitzinger the 500 free (5:13.50).

The 200 medley relay team of Leitzinger, Denise Simens (Jr. Hollister, Ca.), Johnson and Gina Mattucci (Fr. Jeannette) won their event, while the 200 free relay squad of Johnson, Carissa Wetzel (Fr. Allentown), Kelly Connolly (Fr. Cranberry Twp.) and Mattucci won the 200 free relay in a time of 1:41.39.

For the men, Ryan Thiel (So. Ligonier) and Dustin Fedunok (So. Gibsonia) were double winners in individual events. Thiel won the 200 free (1:42.66) and the 100 fly (53.77), while Fedunok captured the 200 IM (2:02.68) and the 100 free (48.37).

Other individual winners included Drew Soisson (So. Mechanicsburg) in the 1650 (17:19.34), Jon Kofmehl (Fr. Johnstown) in the 100 back (54.51) and Garet Weston (Fr. Indiana) in the 500 free (4:57.42).

The 200 free relay team of Andrew Helm, Tom Deardorff, Mike Cohen and Thiel also won the 200 free relay (1:28.23).

Eighth year head coach Mark VanDyke will next have his Golden Eagles in action on January 25th -26 at Ashland University with Wayne State.
