CLARION WOMEN 3-0 AT ASHLAND

Final Stats

(Ashland, Ohio): Clarion's Women's Swimming and Diving team was 3-0 over the weekend against Ashland and Wayne State.

On Friday night the Golden Eagles defeated Ashland 136-104. Then on Saturday, also at Ashland, the Golden Eagles toppled Ashland 196-101 and Wayne State 169-127.

On Friday night the Golden Eagles featured five individual winners including Lori Leitzinger (Sr. State College), Kaitlyn Johnson (Fr. Uniontown), Stevie Coble (Sr. Akron), Kelly Connolly (Fr. Cranberry Twp.) and Rebecca Burgess (So. Gibsonia).

Leitzinger won the 200 free (1:58.24), Johnson the 50 free (24.94), Coble the 1650 free (18:20.74), Connolly the 200 IM (2:15.98) and Burgess the 500 free (5:17.89).

Burgess, Connolly, Johnson and Leitzinger won the 400 medley relay (4:06.75), while Leitzinger, Carissa Wetzel (Fr. Allentown), Gina Mattucci (Fr. Jeannette) and Johnson captured the 400 free relay (3:40.02).

Ginny Saras (Sr. Sugarloaf) won the 1 and 3 meter diving with totals of 242.99 and 233.78. Kayla Kelosky (Fr. Ellwood City) was second on both boards at 226.05 and 212.02.

On Saturday Clarion featured three double winners including Leitzinger, Denise Simens (So. Hollister, Ca.) and Johnson.

Leitzinger won the 100 back (59.06) and the 200 back (2:06.79), while Simens took her specialties in the 100 breast (1:06.43) and the 200 breast (2:27.66) and Johnson the 100 free (59.34) and the 100 butterfly (59.34).

Other winners included Mattucci in the 50 free (25.08) and Sari Cattoni (Sr. Lewis Run) in the 200 IM at 2:14.97. She won by one-hundredth of a second of teammate Simens (2:14.98).

Leitzinger, Simens, Wetzel and Mattucci won the 200 medley relay, while Johnson, Mattucci, Connolly and Jamie Maloney (So. York) won the 200 free relay.

Saras won the 3 meter event scoring 231.80 and was second in the 1 meter (225.80). Kelosky was third on both boards.

The Golden Eagles are now 8-1 on the season and will next be in action against IUP on February 1 at Tippin Natatorium. Meet time is 6pm.
