GOLDEN EAGLES GO 0-3 SUNDAY

FLORENCE, SC - The Clarion University softball team concluded their stay at the Patriot Invitational by dropping three games Sunday.

The Golden Eagles lost to UNC-Pembroke 3-1, Fairmont State 4-0 and Chowan 8-0.

In the UNC-Pembroke game, Lindsay Vevers took the loss going 3 2/3 innings and striking out one. Valorie Rankin relieved and went the final 2 1/3 also striking out one.

Clarion had four hits in the game including two by Carlie Cook and one apiece from Lauren Martino and Suzie DeNillo.

In the second game of the day, the Golden Eagles suffered a gut-wrenching 4-0 decision to Fairmont State. The game was tied at zero going to the top of the seventh, but Fairmont State got four runs in the inning off of starter and loser Caitlin Lamison. Lamison went seven innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two.

Clarion's offense mustered four hits in the game, including a double by Lauren Stauber.

In the final game of the day, Chowan beat the Golden Eagles 8-0 in five innings.

Vevers took the loss going 1 1/3 innings, walking a batter and striking out a batter. Rankin went two innings walking two, and Lamison finished up striking out one and allowing a home run.

Clarion had three hits on the day. One from Corinna Stenthal, one from Marissa Myers and one from Brittany Becker.

The Golden Eagles, who fell to 1-4 with the loses, return to action March 26 with a doubleheader at Seton Hill.
