INDIANA - The Clarion University baseball team split a pair of "home" games against IUP Sunday in Indiana.
Clarion, which chose to play the games at IUP because of unplayable field conditions at Clarion, lost the first game 8-2 before winning the nightcap 3-2.
The Golden Eagles are now 7-7 overall and 1-3 in the PSAC-West. They are slated to host Mercyhurst Tuesday at noon.
GAME ONE
In the first game, Jake Yackovich and Matt Rossi each had two hits for the Golden Eagles with Rossi clubbing a 2-run home run.
Paul Baker took the loss on the mound.
GAME TWO
In the nightcap, John Hynes threw a gem going 6 2/3 innings and allowing two runs on five hits while striking out seven to get the win. Kirk Hays came on in the seventh and got the final out when he struck out an IUP hitter with the bases loaded for his first save of the season.
Adam Foltz led the offense with three hits, while Yackovich added a hit.
