(Clarion, Pa.): The Clarion University Women's Tennis team won its final match of the season defeating Mercyhurst today 5-4 at the Campbell Courts.
Clarion finished its season with an overall record of 9-8.
The match started with doubles and Mercyhurst won two out of three to take a 2-1 lead. The lone Golden Eagle win came at #3 doubles when Brittany Bovalino and Sharayah Campbell defeated Natalie Iovino and Kelton Macke by an 8-3 score.
Moving on to singles, Clarion won four of six single matches to pull out the win. Kassie Leuschel won at #4 singles over Meghan Raynor 6-4, 6-4, and at #5 it was Sharayah Campbell outlasting Kelton Macke 4-6, 6-2, 6-0.
The last two matches on the court were at #1 and #2 singles, and the Golden Eagle seniors came through. Corin Rombach defeated Kim Ezzo at #1 singles by a 6-3, 6-4 score, and Lisa Baumgartner defeated Jennifer Daly 6-3, 6-4, to secure the win for Clarion.
"It was really nice to finish the season off with a quality win", said Clarion head coach Lori Sabatose. "It was especially nice to have our two seniors as the last players on the court, and then see them bring home the win. What a way to go out."
