GOLDEN EAGLES SWEPT BY IUP

INDIANA - IUP swept visiting Clarion 4-0 and 5-4 in a PSAC-West softball doubleheader Sunday in Indiana.

With the losses, the Golden Eagles drop to 2-13 overall and 0-6 in the PSAC-West. Clarion returns to action Monday when it hosts Lock Haven at 2:30 p.m.

GAME ONE - IUP 4, Clarion 0 IUP's Erin Holloway tied a PSAC record for strikeouts in a game with 18 while limiting the Golden Eagles to just one hit and a walk in a 4-0 Crimson Hawk victory.

IUP scored all four of its runs in the second inning off of Clarion starter and loser Caitlin Lamison. Lamison went six innings allowing four runs, all earned, on four hits and four walks while striking out one.

Carlie Cook had the lone hit, a double, for Clarion.

GAME TWO - IUP 5, Clarion 4

In Game Two, Clarion trailed 4-1 after five innings but rallied to tie the score with three runs in the top of the sixth only to watch IUP retake the lead for good with a run in the bottom of the inning to get the 5-4 victory.

Dana Johnson had the big hit in the top of the sixth for the Golden Eagles with a two-run triple that also platted her with the inning's third run thanks to an error by IUP.

But IUP answered back in the bottom of the sixth scoring an unearned run to take the 5-4 lead. Clarion got the tying run to second in the top of the seventh, but pinch hitter Marissa Myers flew out to left ending the game.

Valorie Rankin took the loss in relief for Clarion going two innings and allowing one unearned run on two hits while striking out two. Lindsay Vevers started and went four innings allowing four earned runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out two.

Johnson paced the offense going 2-for-2 with a double and a triple, a run scored and three RBIs. Nicole Lollo added a 2-for-3 day, while Suzie DeNillo scored a pair of runs for the Golden Eagles.
