CLARION - The Clarion University baseball team was swept in a doubleheader by visiting Shippensburg Sunday afternoon losing 13-5 and 8-1.
The Golden Eagles - who lost all four PSAC-West games this weekend to Shippensburg - fall to 7-11 overall and 1-7 in the PSAC-West. Shippensburg improves to 26-13 and 6-2.
Clarion returns to action Monday when it visits Mansfield in non-conference action.
GAME ONE - Shippensburg 13, Clarion 5
In Game One, Shippensburg jumped out to a 6-3 lead at the end of two innings and held a 6-4 lead going to the top of the sixth when it exploded for six runs, including five in the sixth, in the final two innings off reliever Paul Baker to blow the game open.
Robert Pollum took the loss for Clarion going five innings and allowing seven runs, six earned, on 12 hits and two walks while striking out two. Baker went the final two innings allowing six earned runs on four hits and three walks.
Matt Rossi paced Clarion's offense going 3-for-3 with an RBI, while Adam Foltz was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Jake Yackovich was also 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Jason Krimsky was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
GAME TWO - Shippensburg 8, Clarion 1
In the nightcap, Shippensburg exploded for five runs in the second innings on its way to the 8-1 win.
John Hynes took the loss for the Golden Eagles pitching six innings and allowing eight runs, just four of which were earned thanks to three Clarion errors, on eight hits and five walks. Jonathan Giuliani finished off going one inning and striking out one.
Doug Brown was 2-for-3 with a run scored to pace Clarion's offense. Matt White had the lone RBI for the Golden Eagles.
