CLARION - The Clarion University baseball team fell to Allegheny 12-3 in a nine-inning game Wednesday at Clarion's Memorial Field.
Allegheny jumped out to a 5-1 lead at the end of five innings and then put the game away with five-run seventh inning.
Clarion's offense struggled getting just six hits on the day. Andrew Petruska led the offense going 1-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
Jake Yale, making his first start of the year, took the loss. He went 3 2/3 innings and allowed six hits and four walks while being charged with five runs, only two of which were earned. He struck out three. He didn't pitch all that bad but was hurt by a couple of Clarion errors and a couple of well placed Gator hits.
Paul Baker relieved and went 2 1/3 innings allowing one unearned run on one hit and two walks while striking out two. Jonathan Giuliani faced five batters with all five reaching and scoring. He allowed three hits, walked a batter and hit a batter. All five runs were earned. George Kovac mopped up going three innings and allowing one run on two hits and two walks while striking out four.
With the loss, Clarion falls to 7-14 on the season. The Golden Eagles return to action Friday with a PSAC-West doubleheader Friday at California.
