CRESSON - The Clarion University baseball team was swept in a doubleheader at Mt. Aloysius Thursday losing by scores of 16-8 and 4-3.
In the Game One 16-8 defeat, Clarion led 5-0 at the end of a half inning and 8-1 after 2 ½ innings. But Mt. Aloysius scored six times in the bottom of the third to get within a run and then took the lead with a six spot in the fifth before scoring three more in the sixth.
Paul Baker, Clarion's third pitcher, took the loss going 2/3 of an inning and allowing five runs, three earned, on three hits and three walks while striking out one.
Nicholas LaManna started and went three innings allowing seven runs on six hits and two walks. Jonathan Giuliani relieved and went 1 1/3 innings allowing one run on two hits and a walk while striking out one. Jordan Premick also pitched for Clarion allowing three runs on two hits and a walk while striking out two in an inning of work.
Andrew Petruska led the offense going 2-for-4 with a run scored, two RBIs and a stolen base. Matt White and Jake Yackovich were also each 2-for-4 with an RBI. White scored twice and Yackovich one.
In Game Two, Clarion fell behind 4-0 before scoring three times in the sixth to cut the lead to one. But they couldn't get any more.
Greg Bandzuh took the loss going six innings and allowing four runs, three unearned, on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven.
Doug Brown was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Petruska was 1-for-3 with a run scored, a double and two RBIs. Matt Rossi was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The losses drop Clarion to 12-28 on the season. The Golden Eagles close out their season when they host Columbia Union in a doubleheader starting at 10 a.m. Friday morning.
