CLARION SPIKERS START SEASON 2-0

CLARION - The Clarion University women's volleyball team started the 2008 season with a pair of wins at the Clarion Tournament Friday.

In the first game of the day, the Golden Eagles defeated Tiffin 3-1, while in the nightcap Clarion beat Notre Dame College (Ohio) 3-0.

In the Tiffin match, Clarion won by scores of 25-22, 25-16, 19-25, 25-20. Nikki Andrusz led the way with 12 kills and four blocks, while freshman Kellie Bartman added 11 kills. Freshman Amanda Gough had 34 set assists, while another freshman Rhianon Brady had 15 digs with Joy Carey adding 10 digs.

The Golden Eagles then swept past Notre Dame College by scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-19. Andrusz and freshman Danielle Brunot each had 10 kills with Andrusz adding three more blocks. Gough had 34 set assists with Brady chipping in 11 digs and Carey 8.

Clarion returns to action with a pair of matches Saturday at Tippin Gym.
