LAKELAND, Fla. - The Clarion University women's volleyball team gave Eckerd a battle before falling 3-1 (12-25, 26-24, 17-25, 23-25) in the opening game of the Florida Southern Tournament Friday afternoon in Lakeland, Fla.

The loss drops the Golden Eagles to 9-2 on the season. Clarion has one more match remaining Friday when it plays the University of Tampa at 5 p.m. The Golden Eagles then play two more matches Saturday.

Freshman Kellie Bartman led Clarion with seven kills and two blocks, while Leeann Higginbotham added six kills, six aces and six digs.

Rhianon Brady had 12 digs, while Amanda Gough added 20 set assists.
