SRU KNOCKS OFF CLARION

CLARION - Slippery Rock rushed out to a 2-0 lead and then held off a Clarion rally to defeat the Golden Eagles 3-1 in a PSAC-West volleyball match Tuesday at Clarion's Tippin Gym.

Slippery Rock won the first two sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-14 before Clarion (10-8 overall, 2-3 PSAC-West) rallied to win the third set 25-22.

The Golden Eagles then led 8-7 in the fourth set, but Slippery Rock (10-7, 2-3) rolled off 14 of the next 21 points to take control of set before winning the set and the match 25-19.

Kellie Bartman paced Clarion with 12 kills, 14 digs and two blocks, while Leeann Higginbotham had 10 kills and Nicole Andrusz nine kills. Danielle Brunot added six kills and two blocks, and Amanda Gough had five kills, 25 assists and 10 digs. Dani Hughes contributed 12 assists and five digs, and Rhianon Brady had 24 digs.

The Golden Eagles, who have lost three straight and seven of eight, return to action this weekend at Edinboro in PSAC Crossover action.
