EAST STROUDSBURG - The Golden Eagle women's volleyball team improved to 6-1 on the young season with a pair of wins at the East Stroudsburg Tournament Friday. Clarion toppled Shepherd 3-1 (25-20, 25-14, 23-25, 25-19) and St. Rose 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-15).

In the Shepherd match, freshman setter Amanda Gough turned in an all-around performance with 23 assists, nine digs, three kills, three blocks and two service aces, while another freshman Kellie Bartman added 12 kills and two blocks. A third freshman, Rhianon Brady, chipped in with 25 digs, while Katie Aurand added 14 digs and three aces. Leeann Higginbotham contributed nine kills, and Nicole Andrusz had 12 kills, five blocks and three service aces.

Andrusz continued her early-season strong play vs. St. Rose with six kills and three blocks and a .315 hitting percentage. Higginbotham added six kills and three blocks, Brady eight digs and Gough 21 assists, six digs and two aces.

The Golden Eagles return to action Saturday with a pair of matches at the tournament. They take on Queens (NY) at 11 a.m. and Philadelphia at 1 p.m.
