CLARION LOSES 36-4 AT #16 EDINBORO

(Edinboro, Pa:): #16 ranked Edinboro won the first 9 bouts on its way to a 36-4 win on Friday night against visiting Clarion in NCAA Division I Wrestling.

Clarion drops to 4-7 in dual action and 0-1 in the Eastern Wrestling League, while the Scots raised their record to 8-4 overall and 1-0 in the EWL.

The match started at 174 and Clarion's Scott Joseph lost a tough 4-3 decision to Paul Paddock. Paddock scored a counter takedown with 30-seconds left, and although joseph escaped ten seconds later, he was unable to score and lost his bout.

Clarion's Clint Podish wrestled a tough bout against #11 Chris Honeycutt before losing 2-0 at 184. Honeycutt scored a second period escape and had riding time for his 2-0 win.

Edinboro widened its lead when Pat Bradshaw defeated Jamie Lucket 7-2 at 197, then #14 Joey Fendone pinned Roman Husam at heavyweight to put Edinboro in front 15-0.

Edinboro's #1 ranked Paul Donahoe posted a 20-4 technical fall at 3:33 over Clarion's #20 ranked Jay Ivanco at 125, Ricky Deubel major decisioned Zach Oberlander 11-2 at 133 and Steven Waite decisioned Sal Lascari 8-3 at 141 and Edinboro led 27-0.

The Golden Eagles forfeited at 149, setting up another big matchup at 157 between #1 Gregor Gillespie and Clarion's Hadley Harrison. Gillespie had a first period takedown and a two-point near fall to led 4-0. Gillespie chose down and Harrison rode him for over one minute. Gillespie finally escaped and led 5-0. Harrison chose neutral and aggressively sought Gillespie in the third, drawing a stall warning on Gillespie. A shot at a big move by Harrison in the final seconds resulted in a Gillespie takedown to finish 7-0.

Clarion's lone win came at 165 when Dominic Ross notched a major decision over Chris Hrunk 12-3. Ross had two first period takedowns, one takedown in the second and two more in the third to get his victory. Ross is now 7-8 on the season.

CLARION NOTES: Clarion travels to Bloomington, Indiana to participate in the Indiana duals on Sunday... Clarion wrestles American at 11am, Gardner-Webb at 1pm and Indiana at 3pm.
