FIRST HALF RUNS HELPS GANNON TOP EAGLES

ERIE - Gannon used a 16-4 first-half run to build a 14-point halftime lead and then outscored Clarion by three in the second half to get a 79-62 win over the Golden Eagles in a PSAC-West game Saturday afternoon at Gannon' Hammermill Center.

The Golden Eagles (9-5 overall, 0-2 PSAC-West), which trailed 45-31 at halftime, were hurt by Gannon points off turnovers. Clarion turned the ball over 20 times leading to 25 Gannon tallies.

The game was tight for the first 10:30 with Gannon leading by four, 18-14, with 9:24 to play. But Gannon went on the 16-4 run fueled by four treys to take a 16-point lead and never looked back.

Shameel Carty and Josh Yanke led Clarion with 17 points each with Yanke, a Gannon transfer, adding seven rebounds.

Joe Lindsey led Gannon with 23 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Tyler Stoczynski added 14 points and five boards, and George Johnson 11 rebounds. Three-pointers were a big weapon for the Golden Knights with Gannon going 9 of 18 from beyond the 3-point arc.

Clarion returns to action at 8 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts California.

NOTES - It was Clarion's first game with Gannon since the Golden Knights joined the PSAC-West this season ... Yanke now has 866 career points.
